Adrian is a classic outsider. His playful, dreamy imagination distracts him from everyday life, for the reality he lives in could not be more different. Neither his chronically depressed uncle nor his overworked grandmother understand the ten-year-old’s games. His mother abandoned him when he was very young and he is bullied at school. Just as news arrives that three children are missing, a new family moves in next door. Adrian develops a close relationship to their tomboyish, ten-year-old daughter Nicole and believes he is getting close to solving the mys- tery of the missing children. New Zealand forms the backdrop for this universal story for adults and those who have never wanted to grow up. It is a story about friendship and loneliness, emotions which Adrian already feels so poignantly as a child. The life of the station attendants Alfons and Bruno is characterized by an everyday routine that they carry out with pedantic thoroughness. Even though no passengers have come for years, they have never failed to sound the hourly warning signals. One day, when a group of traveling musicians show up in front of the ticket counter, Alfons' beloved order is thrown into disarray. Bruno, on the other hand, finds pleasure in the lusty life of the musicians and begins to question the rules of the station.

The dynamics of a cult? Fragile actors are deconstructed by their mentor. Forbidden from discussing it with the outside, instructed to rid their lives of anyone who questions the method.

In order to really see justice done, Mai (Sombat Metanee) leave his work as a lawman, and funds his activities with some thievery of his own. Many elephants serve as co-stars in the action, as he achieves supremacy in crime but cannot escape his status as a wanted man. Eventually, pursued by criminals and the police alike, he takes his wife and children to Cambodia.

Babar is a young elephant in the great forest. Whilst out with his mother a hunter kills his mother and he flees to escape the same fate. He eventually finds himself in a human city and experiences the many differences between city and forest life. Treated as an outsider he is taken in by an elderly woman, dressed in fancy suits, taught to write and count and is brought up in human culture.
